Understanding The Most Recently Developed Zero Energy Building In Singapore

In recent news dating back not more than a year, the National University of Singapore launched its first Zero energy building in Singapore from scratch, on January 30, 2019 at its School of Design and environment.  The basic concept behind the net Zero energy building means that a building labelled as such produces more energy than it actually consumes.

Now, how does this happen? This happens largely when the builders and the architects use environmentally friendly features such as solar panel roof and a hybrid cooling system while its construction. These features help such type of buildings to have a net-zero energy consumption.

While the need for sustainability has grown significantly in the recent years, the exploitation of natural resources has also been sky rocketing. That is why; someone needs to come up with environmentally sustainable solutions when it comes to building and infrastructure. Which is why, concepts like this Zero energy building have come into existence.

Let’s get into the details about this revolutionary advancement. For starters, more than 1,200 solar PV panels help inn powering the entire building and as a result, they produce more than 500 Mega Watts (MW) which is more than one could ask for, and is equivalent to the yearly energy consumption of more than a hundred 4-room housing board flats.

Economically speaking, this type of a building saves about $180,000 in energy costs every single year, thus significantly reducing the cost of operations and maintenance. This is indeed a very crucial step for a booming economy like Singapore as buildings like SDE4 (the building that we are talking about) play an important part in tackling climate change.

As we see this as an example, we also must know that it is very crucial to develop such buildings, specifically in countries like Singapore and many other Asian Countries which are developed and lead in their infrastructure, because nearly a quarter of such  a country’s  carbon emissions come from the Infrastructural sector.

We at GreenA Consultants also work on something like this. We are into all sorts of green building certification and advisory and like the SDE4 (don’t worry, we did not work on that!), we come up with innovative solutions and design frameworks to give your building the best accreditation for being a sustainable building.

If you are worried about the energy consumption of your building, get it checked and verified by our third party verification, in which we judge according to various metrics such as CO2 Emissions reduction, energy savings, water efficiency, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources to give you exactly the Eco-friendly building you wished for!

All builders in Singapore call us TODAY and we promise to give you innovative and practical solutions for creating a sustainable environment!
